Deep Red 16" x 20" Mixed Media on Paper Jim Potterton's abstract paintings are primarily inspired by details in nature and his surroundings, giving geometric shape and form. He usually works quickly and intuitively with acrylic paints and pastels to capture moods he detects in the moment. Jim Potterton's paintings often begin with a simple abstract representational structure. He then applies paint in a series of rapid experiments where he discovers links between shapes, textures and colors ending with a composition that gives a strong sense of time and place. |
