Jim Potterton's landscape paintings are primarily inspired by the beauty he experiences as he hikes the trails near his home in Santa Cruz, California. He usually works quickly and intuitively with acrylic paints and pastels to capture moods he detects in the moment. Jim Potterton's paintings often begin with a simple structure of the land and sky. He then applies paint in a series of rapid experiments where he discovers links between shapes, textures and colors ending with a composition that gives a strong sense of time and place
